The spine is a complicated mechanism with multiple attachments and functions each of which can be the root source of pain – mild or agonising. Discomfort experienced in your groin, hip or leg, can often be traced to the back.

About 90% of low back pain is non-specific, showing no apparent evidence on a scan. About 70% of patients will experience a repeat episode. Exercise is the only thing that has been found to effective in the long term treatment of lower back pain.

The increased sedentary nature of our lifestyle has lead to a marked increase in the incidence of spinal pain caused by poor posture.

However, back pain may also occasionally be a symptom of a rarer, more serious problem, such as progressive bone or joint disease.
